Introducing Myself

My name is Phil Stenger and I am a senior computer science major here at Notre Dame. I live in Siegfried Hall and am from Grand Rapids, Michigan. I am primarily interested in video game development and software development. I am studying computer science because I enjoy working with computer software and enjoy the multitude of options computer science provides for creative expression. In taking this class I hope to learn about potential ethical issues I could encounter in the work force, as well as how to approach any ethical issues I encounter. Next year I will be working for Ford Motor Company, so one ethical issue facing computer scientists which I am interested in is AI in self driving cars. While there is a lot of potential in this area not only in terms of profit but also changing how people live their lives, it is something which calls to mind a lot of ethical issues. In this case, a software bug isn't going to just cause a website or program to crash, it's going to have the potential to cause death. It is very important to consider all the ethical implications of autonomous vehicles as the technology moves forward.
